Q. How do I clean my siding?
A. A yearly cleaning with a garden hose is sufficient. If mold and mildew is a
problem in your geographical area, a mixture of two parts water and one part
bleach sprayed onto the siding should eliminate it.
Q. What is the product made of and how is it manufactured?
A. Nailite products are made of durable, high quality Polypropylene. We utilize
an injection molding process to create Nailite panels.
Q. Can Nailite panels be used as roofing?
A. Nailite panels can only be used on roofs with a slope of 45/12 or greater,
typically mansard style roofs. Nailite panels are not intended for horizontal
use and should not be used under such circumstances.
Q. What type of nail do I use to install Nailite panels?
A. The most commonly used nails are galvanized roofing nails or aluminum nails.
Any type of non-corrosive nails or screws are acceptable so long as the head is
larger than the panel's nailing hole. The size of your nail will vary job to
job depending on the thickness of your materials. Your nail must penetrate a
solid substrate by at least 1/2". It is recommended that the substrate itself
be no less than 7/16" thick.
Q. How do you cut the panels?
A. We recommend a circular saw with the blade in the reversed position.
Q. Can the siding be applied directly to studs?
A. Stud locations vary. A better solution is to build a horizontal furring strip
framework and nail the panels directly to the furring strips or solid
substrate.
Q. Can the panels be painted?
A. Nailite panels are paintable. We recommend a high quality, acrylic latex
paint. Spraying is preferred to brush painting.
Q. How do I finish off my last tier of siding?
A. The final tier can be face nailed in between the seams to keep the nail heads
inconspicuous. Nailite's J-Channel provides a clean, finished look.
Q. How do I treat inside corners?
A. J-channel, or aluminum coil are recommended.
Q. How thick are the panels?
A. Nailite panels are approximately .090" (90 thousands of an inch) thick.
Q. What is the expansion and contraction rate?
A. Nailite can expand or contract as much as 1/8" per panel. Each panel has
built in expansion joints to help compensate for movement. DO NOT attempt to
override these expansion joints during installation. If the panels are being
installed in cooler weather (under 60ยบ), allow a little extra room for
expansion.
Q. How much waste should I calculate for my project?
A. 5% waste is standard for long runs and walls with little cuts. Factor 10%-15%
for mansards, gables and other areas requiring an extreme amount of cuts.
